Cerrillo Neighborhood

This neighborhood was founded by Tsotsil, Chol, Tseltal, Tojolabal and Zoque slaves. Thanks to the denunciations presented by Fray Bartolomé de las Casas before the Spanish court, they obtained their freedom in 1549.

The most important trade in this neighborhood is blacksmithing, one of the trades inherited from the Spaniards. Locks, keys, doorknockers, crosses with allegories of the crucifixion of Christ, doors, windows, plates, lanterns, railings and artistic works are made using this technique of hammering and forging iron.

The temple of this neighborhood is built in honor of the Transfiguration of the Lord.
