San Ramón Neighborhood

Founded on donations of land offered by Ramón Larráinzar Piñeyro, who was a federal deputy, senator and interim governor of Chiapas, in 1849. It was the result of the pressures of the inhabitants in situations of poverty of the city and in front of rumors of a feared indigenous uprising.

The church was built in the XIX century, in honor of San Ramón Nonato, who according to the beliefs makes children talk. During the celebrations of this neighborhood, jars filled with perfumed water are placed outside the temple, which are known as "Agua de San Ramón", which is attributed with the properties of curing the stuttering of children.

The representative craft of this neighborhood is pottery, made of clay, worked with a pedal and molded with the hands to give it shape and size according to the type of work requested. Among the objects produced are plates, cups, vases and flowerpots. 

In addition to pottery, the neighborhood is known for the elaboration of bread such as cazuelejas, anise and cinnamon rosquitas dipped in sesame seeds, French bread, imaginative figures and marquesote. Also typical sweets such as chimbos, cajetas, yolk figures, mocas, gaznates, etc. are made.
