Mexicanos Neighborhood

This neighborhood dates from the arrival of Diego de Mazariegos, founder of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, in the XVI century, specifically founded in the year 1528. The temple built in 1594 and dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin, which celebrates every year the transition from physical death and elevation to heaven, as well as the coronation of the Virgin Mary as Queen of Creation.

In the neighborhood there are small workshops dedicated to the manufacture of typical San Cristóbal furniture, made with rich pine, oak or cypress wood. Also, dedicated to the production and dyeing of nahua, weavers, candy makers, spinners, artisans and brick makers.
