Guadalupe Neighborhood

The Guadalupe neighborhood arose as an extension of the Cerrillo neighborhood. Behind this neighborhood was the obligatory pass to enter and leave the city. The church of Guadalupe was built in 1835 on a small hill that surrounded Ciudad Real, now San Cristóbal de Las Casa. It honors the Virgin of Guadalupe. The celebrations in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe are very colorful, joyful and full of tradition, in addition, every year thousands of pilgrims from different parts of the country are received.  

The viewpoint of the church of Guadalupe is one of the points with the best view of the whole city, from there you can appreciate the center of the city and a great part of San Cristóbal de Las Casas. To get there, it is necessary to climb 79 steps.

This neighborhood is distinguished by the production and commercialization of wooden toys such as cargo trucks, spinning tops, baleros, maromeros, and rolling birds propelled by a long stick. In addition, it is also known for the talabatería, activity that consists of the elaboration of objects such as bags, backpacks, footwear, saddles, among others.
