Cuxtitali Neighborhood

Neighborhood founded before the arrival of colonization. It was Quiché Indians of Guatemalan origin who settled in these lands. The name Cuxtitali means "red land" and its name is due to the fact that the floors of the streets of this neighborhood are mostly red. Cuxtitali was founded at the end of the XVII century, and is considered in chronological order the fourth neighborhood to be founded, one of the oldest in San Cristobal de Las Casas.

The activity that distinguishes this neighborhood is the breeding of pigs and the elaboration and commercialization of products made from this animal such as pork and sausages, coming from the Spanish influence.

In the altar of the temple of the Cuxtitali neighborhood the Dulce Nombre de Jesus is venerated and in the side chapel the Virgen del Rosario.
